OUR ORIGINS

Where it all began and where the project continues

La Biancara was born in 1988 from a dream shared by Angiolino Maule and his wife Rosamaria. After running a pizza restaurant for 12 years, they decided to dedicate themselves to their lifelong passion: viticulture.

In the early 1980s, they bought land on a hillside near the village of Sorio di Gambellara and built a house and cellar. They also bought 6 hectares of vineyards, and set about planting vines in these early years.

In the vineyard and in the cellar, Nature is our queen and the driving force behind the wine that is put into bottle every year since the very first vintage.

The first wine produced was Sassaia, a white wine that remains our best expression of the terroir and the grape variety, Garganega.

Over the years, the quest for oenological quality and ecological integrity has defined our work and our philosophy.

Today, Angiolino with his sons, Alessandro and Tommaso, manage the vineyard and the cellar, together with an employee. The desire to experiment in order to see improvements and find greater authenticity in our wines remains a constant priority.

Today, there are 18 hectares of vineyards in total; 15 of which are owned and 3 are rented. The heart of the winery is located in the volcanic hills of Gambellara, where the Garganega variety has been established for more than 1,000 years; 85% of our vineyards are planted with this variety! We also have two hectares in Sossano (15 km further south), in the Colli Berici, where Tai Tosso (Grenache) is best expressed.

The running of the winery remains (and wants to remain) completely in the family; from the work in the vineyard to the efforts in the cellar, and even the sales and marketing.

Other crops grown on the periphery of the vineyards include approximately one hundred olive trees and fruit trees such as cherry trees, figs, apricots and peaches from which Rosamaria produces jams with just the addition of sugar.
